Google Gemini Using Your Conversations
Is Google Gemini Using Your Conversations to Train Its AI?
Yes. And most people have no idea it's happening.
By default, Google saves your Gemini conversations through a setting called Gemini Apps Activity. Those conversations can be reviewed by Google employees and used to improve their AI models. That includes things you type into Gemini at work, at home, or on your phone.
This is the third in a series. I've already covered how Claude and ChatGPT handle your data. Gemini works similarly — opt-in by default, opt-out available if you know where to look.
Here's how to turn it off.
What Happens When You Turn It Off?
Your conversations stop being stored. Google can no longer review them or use them to improve Gemini. You also lose the ability to review your own past conversations, but for most people, that's a worthwhile tradeoff.
The Bottom Line
You have more control over your data than most AI tools let on. It just takes knowing where to look.
If you missed the Claude and ChatGPT posts, check the links below. Three platforms, three opt-outs, maybe ten minutes total. Worth doing.
